About/Contact
Laura Reedy Stukel is Elmhurst’s first EcoBroker Certified sales agent, specializing in solutions to help clients buy and sell the “not-YET-green home” and supporting the buyer to make green improvements upon closing.
Her Ready, Set, Green Homes(SM) program is designed for both buyers and sellers. The programs package federal tax credits for energy efficiency with seller credits and lender incentives to make not-yet-green homes more attractive to potential green buyers. The 5×10 Challenge(SM) is a related program which guides homeowners to improvements which will appeal to buyers selecting homes based on features and utility costs in the not-so-distant future.
Stukel’s passion for green homes comes directly from managing the extensive retrofit of her own 1966 home. The project was recognized as the “Green Improvements” winner in Better Homes and Gardens magazine’s 2009 Home Improvement Challenge. The rehab focused on saving money and cutting utility usage, choosing products that encourage healthy indoor air quality and finding long-lasting, locally available products.
Stukel is a Founding Member of Efficiency First. She serves on the national Board of Director’s for their Home Performance Resource Center and chairs their Real Estate Working Group. She is also a member of Elmhurst Cool Cities Coalition, serving as co-chair of Project GREEN, a program to improve the energy efficiency of Elmhurst’s mostly pre-1970 housing stock. She was on the intial design committee for the Green MLS in Chicagoland. Her Project Sage effort is a extensive retrofit project for an inner-city community center and it was recognized by the Illinois Association of Realtors as part of “Realtors Renewing America”.
Stukel is the guest author for green topics on the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors consumer blog and Chicago Agent Magazine blog. She actively blogs on her own site, www.notYETgreen.com about home energy efficiency in a casual and cost-saving manner. Stukel is listed in the Not So Big House Home Professionals Directory.
Stukel’s projects have been covered by Better Homes and Gardens magazine, Chicago Agent Magazine, Natural Home magazine, the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Magazine “Deal Estate” blog, the Daily Herald and the Business Ledger. She is a frequent speaker on home energy efficiency including groups such as the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors, McDonald’s Corporation and local community groups.
Previous work in management consulting ensures excellent customer service. Stukel has project management skills to lead a contract from acceptance to closing, change management skills to help families make the transition from one home to the next, and communication skills to maximize the marketing of a listing online, in print and in person.
